S_m called as I was leaving work to ask me to be careful on the way home as the rioting (well, looting) had spread to our neighbourhood. I got home without trouble -- but by walking through a small crowd watching the police lines (modern gladiators with helmets, armour, shields, clubs and war dogs facing off with men & women in t-shirts with empty hands). There was news footage of some vehicles alight, which I've placed about 500 meters from our door. Despite the sirens (which may have been headed elsewhere in the city) it seems like nothing further happened in this area.
