The news report of rumours that Mark Duggan was killed 'execution style' suggest to me that the last spectacularly public extra-judicial killing of a non-white by police in London (Jean Charles de Menezes on 22 July 2005) is still very much in the public mind, as well as that no individual police officers were ever held accountable for his death. Anticipation of a similar whitewash of Mark Duggan's death certainly would contribute to the recent violently hostile behaviour toward police and property.
