An ambitious spider webbed the dorm entrance while I was at breakfast this morning!

Second class field trip yesterday to several Anglo-Saxon churches, including Wing, Earl's Barton and Brixworth. We also visited Taplow, where a Buddhist foundation has taken over a stately home and created a modest museum about the burial mound and the site. Our tutor pointed out to the curator that a 'flint arrowhead, c. 2750 BC' was a waste flake rather than an arrowhead, and that the 'tinned brooch, 300-100 BC' (i.e., pre-Roman) was Roman, probably of the 1st-2nd century. He also had fun at Earl's Barton pointing out 'shoddy work' in the Norman and late medieval modifications to the original Anglo-Saxon tower, much to the (good-natured) indignation of a pair of local women.

Went out for pub food last night rather than face the dining hall. Had some delicious Cumberland sausage (lots of rosemary!) and a pint -- only one! -- of Weston's "Old Rosie" Scrumpy, a strong, non-fizzy, cloudy cider unlike anything made in or imported to the States.
